What is AI ( Artificial Intelligence )?

“Artificial Intelligence” — a type of computer or machine that can think and learn like humans.

Think of it like this:

  • A normal computer only does what you tell it.
  • But AI can understand, learn, and make decisions on its own.

Example:

  • If you talk to Google Assistant, Alexa, or ChatGPT, you are using AI.
  • It can answer questions, translate languages, recognize photos, or even drive cars (like in self-driving cars).

Real-life uses of Artificial Intelligence:

    • Chatbots on websites
    • Face unlock on phones
    • Self-driving cars
    • Recommendation systems (like Netflix or YouTube suggesting videos)

Different branches of Artificial Intelligence

Branch What it Does Example
1. Machine Learning (ML) Learns from data without being programmed Spam filters, recommendation systems
2. Deep Learning (DL) Uses neural networks to mimic the human brain Face recognition, voice assistants
3. Natural Language Processing (NLP) Understands and processes human language ChatGPT, Google Translate
4. Computer Vision Sees and understands images/videos Self-driving cars, facial recognition
5. Robotics Builds machines that can move and act Industrial robots, drones, humanoid robots
6. Expert Systems Decision-making based on a knowledge base Medical diagnosis systems
7. Fuzzy Logic Deals with uncertainty and approximate reasoning Smart thermostats, washing machines
8. Evolutionary Algorithms Learns using ideas from biological evolution Optimization problems in engineering
9. Speech Recognition Understands spoken language Siri, Google Assistant voice input
10. Planning and Scheduling Makes decisions to achieve goals over time AI in games, logistics, traffic systems
11. Generative AI Creates new content (text, images, music) DALL·E, Sora, music and code generation

Simple Way to Remember:

  • Learning → Machine Learning,  Deep Learning
  • Language → NLP, Speech Recognition
  • Seeing → Computer Vision
  • Doing → Robotics, Planning
  • Thinking → Expert Systems, Fuzzy Logic
  • Creating → Generative AI
